Origin: near Buffalo Lake, Sexsmith, Alberta (55°N) by P. Student; wild clump discovered on his farm in 1946. Selected in 1975byJ.G.N. Davidson and KT. (Student) Davidson, introd. in 1990. Fruit up to 13 mm diam., nearly spherical, blue-black with light bloom; typically 7-13 per cluster, cluster tight, even size, and exceptionally even ripening; good, well-balanced flavor, moderately tangy; holds its flavor when cooked better than other cultivars; seeds few and small. Shrub to 5 m high; initially upright, tends to retain tall, erect habit, 2.5 m spread at maturity unless pruned; moderate to good and close suckering near crown; crown long-lived, 50+ years. Hardy to zone l. May have some resistance to leaf diseases. Currently being evaluated in a comprehensive cultivar trial. Tree: Fruit:
