Roughly hairy annual or short-lived perennial, up to 0.6 m tall, with spreading hairs. Leaves alternate, linear, entire or 1-3-dentate. Flowerheads radiate, solitary; peduncle occasionally swollen above; involucre hemispherical, bracts linear-lanceolate, imbricate, roughly hairy and glandular; ray florets female, bluish mauve, rarely white; disc florets numerous, bisexual, yellow often tinted reddish. Cypselas obovate, hairy; pappus of scales and barbellate bristles.
