Characteristics

Annual herb, slender, branching, erect to spreading, c. 10 cm high, wiry, sometimes stoloniferous, glabrous. Leaves opposite; lamina linear-oblong, 3–9 mm long, sometimes puberulous. Flowers solitary on filiform peduncle, predominantly 4-merous; peduncle to 2.5 cm long; bracteoles minute, c. 0.5 mm below flower. Hypanthium campanulate, 2–3 mm deep, 4-angled, slightly ribbed; appendages absent. Sepals 4, truncate, to 0.3 mm long. Petals 4, orbicular, to 1 mm long, white. Stamens 4, included; anthers included. Capsule ovoid or globose, c. equal to hypanthium; dehiscence by apical septicidal valves.
