Characteristics

Inflorescence of pedunculate axillary hemispherical heads with large subtending bracts; primary bract folded down midline and enclosing head of flowers. Calyx 4(or 5)-lobed; appendages 0.4-1.0 mm long. Petals present. Stamens 4(5), shortly exserted. Style 1.2-2.0 mm long. Flowers light purple to mauve or pink.
