Annual herb, 0.23-1.00 m high. Primary peduncles 0.5-3.0 mm long. Calyx appendages small to large, well-defined. Petals small or absent. Style 0.50-0.75 mm long. Mature fruits not inflated, walls opaque and dull, usually dark brown.
Leaves 15–70× 1·5–11 mm., linear or oblong attenuated to the apex, almost hastate-cordate at the base, sometimes broader above the middle.
Calyx-tube c. 1 mm. long, campanulate; lobes 4, deltate; appendages 4, short, horn-shaped.
Ovary 0·7–1 mm. in diameter, globose; style 0·5–1 mm. long.
Stems and branches 4-gonous, widely winged at the summits.
