Characteristics

Plant to 3 m tall. Leaves petiolate; lamina lanceolate, shortly caudate, unequal at base, pubescent on lower surface, 40-60 cm long, 7-12 cm wide; ligule 1.5-2.5 cm long, bilobed, glabrous. Inflorescence congested, 5 cm long, 3 cm wide; peduncle 3-4 cm long; bracts to 4 cm long, glabrous; bracteoles open to base, to 3 cm long, glabrous, occasionally absent. Calyx 2-2.5 cm long, 3-lobed. Corolla tube c. 1.5 cm long; lobes 2 cm long. Labellum clawed, 2.5 cm long, 1.5-2 cm across at widest part, 3-lobed. Lateral staminodes usually subulate, to 5 mm long. Anther subsessile, 10 mm long; crest c. 7 mm wide, obscurely 3-lobed. Ovary 4.5 mm long. Capsule flask-shaped, 3-4 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide, with 9 main wings.
