Characteristics

Herb, perennial, low, glabrous, dioecious, bushy, to c. 45 cm high and wide. Stems ascending or decumbent. Leaves evenly spaced along stems, more numerous towards stem apex; stipules with densely and deeply fringed margins; lamina narrowly spathulate or oblanceolate to linear, (2–) 8–33 mm long, 0.8–2.6 mm wide; base attenuate; margins revolute often to near midrib, coarsely toothed mainly distally; apex broadly acute. Flowers single or clustered, in axils. Male flowers 4-or 5-merous; stamens (2–) 4 (–6); filaments to c. 1.2 mm long; anthers 0.3–0.6 mm long. Capsules ovoid, to c. 2.5 mm long, smooth, conspicuously crowned by 6 horn-like appendages.
