Characteristics

Herb, perennial, low, spreading, many-branched, monoecious, to c. 45 cm high and wide. Stems tending to remain ascending and a little entwined. Leaves evenly placed along stems; stipules with margins entire or with 1–3 (–6) spreading mainly distal teeth; lamina narrowly elliptic to narrowly obovate but mostly appearing linear as margins become revolute, eventually to midrib, (5–) 8–15 mm long, 0.6–3.5 mm wide; base attenuate but ultimately abruptly contracted to petiole; margins entire; apex acute or obtuse and shortly apiculate. Flowers clustered in most leaf axils. Male flowers 4 (5)-merous; stamens (6–) 8; filaments 0.4–0.6 mm long; anthers (0.3–) 0.4–0.5 mm long. Capsules ovoid to ellipsoid, to c. 2 mm long, mostly smooth, slightly pustulate distally.

Environment

Grows mostly in coastal and near-coastal low heath communities in grey or white sandy soils that are often damp. Also recorded in low shrubland in well-drained quartzite outcrops.
