Characteristics

A small, slender prostrate, decumbent or suberect shrublet ca. 30 cm tall. Branchlets spreading, angled, canaliculate, glabrous; upper part green, lower moi woody, brownish. Leaves small and inconspicuous, [I] remote, rigid, erect, 1.2-2.9 x 0.3-0.8 mm, concave acute, triangular-subulate; upper side sericeous, lower glabrous. Inflorescences consisting of 1-3 flowers in the axils of the leaves on short branchlets, often terminally solitary or paired, rarely subracemose. Pedicel short 0.9-2.5 mm. Flowers light to deep purple. Bract inserted at the pedicel base, small, coloured, linear-triangular, acuminate, 1.2-1.7 x 0.3-0.4 mm; upperside sericeous, lower glabrous. Calyx sericeous, minutely gladular-punctate, 3.5-5.2 mm; calyx lobes narrow triangular, acute-acuminate; upper lobes medially connate to 1.2-1.6 mm from their apices, lower lobes larger, 2.0-3.2 mm. Vexillum lamina light purple, sub-orbicular, 5.8-7.5 x 6.2-7.5 mm, emarginate; claw 0.9-2.0 mm. Ala blades light purple, oblong, auriculate 5.5-7.0 x 2.0-3.2 mm, rounded apically and basically with minute wrinkles; claws 1.8-3.0 mm. Carina blades deep purple, obtuse, auriculate at the base, 3.6-6.5 x 8-2.5 mm and with a basal spur; claws 2.0-2.8 mm. Stamens 5.3-8.0 mm; staminal tube 4.0-6.2 mm; anthers 0.3-0.6 mm. Pistil 5.8-8.5 mm, 2-4 ovulate; ovary and lower part of style sericeous, upper part glabrous. Pod not seen in the herbarium material.
