Characteristics

The plants arise from single broadly elliptical tubers about 8 x 6-7 mm, occasionally in older plants, there are several basal, broadly elliptical tubers up to 20 x 11 mm. Usually there is a single apical branch up to 8 x 4 mm but occasionally double branches occur, stem and branches are below ground level. Leaves perennial, apical, always-2 per branch, prostrate to sub erect, ovate to cordiform from above, epetiolate, succulent 4-6 x 3-5 mm and 2-3 mm in cross section, epidermis with a mat texture, light green with reddish tinge. Sepals ovate 3 x 3 mm, light green with a dark green succulent, saccate base enveloping base of underside of petals. Flower solitary, when open horizontal, 11 mm in diameter on an erect to suberect, glabrous reddish peduncle up to 15 x 0.8 mm; petals broadly ovate with a rough surface, dirty greenish-white, 6 x 4 mm with odd petal 4.5 x 3.8 mm. Stamens 12, 4.8 mm high, erect in a ring around ovary with droplets of nectar stored in the gutter around the base of the ovary, anthers 0.8 mm, oblong, dark orange. Ovary 2.3 mm in diameter, globular, glaucous green; style 3 mm long, curving in the upper third, stigma minute, simple. Seeds slightly comma-shaped to broadly obovate 0.8 x 0.5 to 0.8 x 0.8 mm, covered with prominent, spreading trichomes on an orange-brown background.
