Characteristics

Suffrutex, little-branched. Branches closely leafy below and less leafy above. Young parts of branches woolly, older ones glabrous and nude and marked with leaf-scars. Leaves (erecto-patent-) patent-somewhat reflexed, elliptic-obovate, 0.5-1(-1.5) cm long and 1.5-3(-5) mm wide, mucronate, smooth and glabrous on upper side. Corymbophore (3-)5-13(-19) cm long and 1-2 mm in diameter, densely woolly. Corymb 1.5-2.5(-3.5) cm wide. Peduncles 5-10(-20) mm long, densely woolly. Capitula 4-5-flowered. Involucral bracts (12-)15-18. Outer bracts narrowly elliptic-narrowly ovate, 3-4 mm long and 1-1.5 mm wide, brown with darker apex and base, acute, outside and margins sparsely white-sericeous. Middle bracts narrowly obovate-somewhat stipitate, 4-4.5(-5) mm long and 1-1.5 mm wide in the middle and c. 1.5 mm wide at the apex, apical part brown and obtuse, remaining part light brown, outside and margins except the tip sparsely white-sericeous. Inner bracts stipitate; claw narrowly elliptic-narrowly obovate, 3-3.5 mm long and 0.5-1 mm wide, light brown-light green, outside and margins glabrous or very sparsely sericeous above; lamina circular, 1-1.5 mm long and wide, white, opaque, obtuse. Female floret 1. Corolla (2-)2.2-2.5 mm long, often purple in the middle. Pappus bristles c. 10, 0.5-0.8 mm long, whitish, straight, sparsely barbellate, basally fused into an annulus and connate to c. 1/3. Achene narrowly oblong-narrowly elliptic, (1.3-)1.6-1.9 mm long and 0.4-0.6 mm wide, brown, ± densely glandular. Male florets 3-4. Corolla 2.5-2.8(-3) mm long, often purple above. Pappus bristles 10-15, (1.4-)1.6-2 mm long, whitish, straight, barbellate, broader towards the base, basally fused into an annulus and connate to c. 1/3rd (often two and two). Flowering period: Mainly October-December, but flowering specimens also seen from February, April, and July.
