A scabrous prostrate or decumbent, rarely erect, perennial herb with several usually simple or subsimple stems up to 35 cm. in length arising from a woody rootstock; stems, leaves, stipules and ? calyx-lobes with the asperous hairs or papillae sometimes gland-tipped (var. glandulosa).. Male flowers: pedicels 1.5–2 mm. long; sepals oblanceolate-oblong, 1.3 mm. long, subacute, denticulate towards the apex, yellowish green with hyaline margins; petals rhombic-elliptic, ± 1 mm. long, acute, white; disc-glands obreniform, flattened, granulate; stamens ± 1 mm. long, anthers 0.25 mm. across, pale yellow; pistillode tripartite, 0.5 mm. high.. Open dry woodland or bushland and in dry, sandy or stony river beds, at elevations from sea-level up to 2,000 metres, occasionally to 2,400 metres.
