A scabrous prostrate or decumbent, rarely erect, perennial herb with several usually simple or subsimple stems up to 35 cm. in length arising from a woody rootstock; stems, leaves, stipules and ? calyx-lobes with the asperous hairs or papillae sometimes gland-tipped (var. glandulosa).. Leaves rather lax; petioles 0.1–1(–1.5) cm. long; blades suborbicular-subreniform, rarely ovate, (0.2–)0.5–1.5(–2.5) cm. long and wide, rounded or emarginate, rounded-truncate to shallowly cordate, membranous, 5–7-nerved from the base, lateral nerves (1–)3(–4) pairs, generally ± indistinct, glabrous or sparingly scabrous above, sparingly to evenly scabrous beneath, scabrous-ciliate on the margins, glaucous.. Stipules oblong-lanceolate, 1 mm. long, scabrous-ciliate.. Flowers borne in the distal axils of the main stems, or on short lateral branchlets; bracts minute.. Male flowers: pedicels 1.5–2 mm. long; sepals oblanceolate-oblong, 1.3 mm. long, subacute, denticulate towards the apex, yellowish green with hyaline margins; petals rhombic-elliptic, ± 1 mm. long, acute, white; disc-glands obreniform, flattened, granulate; stamens ± 1 mm. long, anthers 0.25 mm. across, pale yellow; pistillode tripartite, 0.5 mm. high.. Female flowers: pedicels 2 mm. long, extending to 4–8 mm. in fruit, thicker than in the male; sepals lanceolate, 2 mm. long, subacute, ciliolate, green with narrow hyaline margins; petals subulate, 1 mm. long, acute, whitish; disc-glands 5, free, cuneate, truncate and granulate at the apex, fleshy; ovary shallowly 6-lobate, 0.75 mm. diameter, densely hirtellous; styles divaricate-spreading, 0.75 mm. long, bipartite..
