Species

Angiosperms > Ranunculales > Ranunculaceae > Anemone

Characteristics

Erect, 0.40-0.90 m tall. Rhizome vertical to ascending. Indumentum sericeous on leafbases, young leaves and inflorescences. Mature scapes, peduncles and petioles more or less pilose. Leaves beneath uniformly and densely to sparsely pilose, above uniformly and densely hirsute to sparsely hirsute with hairs usually strictly confined to the veins and sinuses. Leaves 65-265(375) mm long, ternate to triternate, leaflets occasionally pinnately incised or lobed. Leaflets 23-45(-67) x 10-36 mm, leaflets of 3rd order slightly smaller, length/breadth ratio varying from 1/1 to 3/2 in 1st order leaflets to more than 2/1 in 3rd order leaflets, ovate; bases cuneate to truncate (1st order leaflets rarely slightly cordate); apices mucronate to acuminate. Margins slightly thickened to revolute, acuminately to acutely serrate to dentate; sinuses forming acute angles. Veins usually impressed above (on older leaves often conspicuously so), the leaf surface becoming rugose. Scape 80-640 mm, nearly always exceeding the leaves, usually by far, 1.2-6.8 mm in diameter. Bracts acute; lower bracts trisect, serrate; upper ones linear or narrowly triangular, entire. Inflorescence (1-)2-3(-4) times compound, containing 6-60 flowers. Flowers 14-57 mm in diameter; tepals 13-22, greenish-white to yellowish-cream, occasionally tinged with pink, linear to obovate, length/breadth ratio 3/1 to 12/1, outer ones slightly pilose. Pollen sacs twice as long as broad or longer. Ovaries 15-61, shorter than to as long as styles, sericeous especially at base. Torus conical to semiglobular. Fruits up to 6.7 x 3.0 mm, sessile, probably greyish to brown, pilose.
