Suffruticose, diffusely branched, to ca. 3 dm. tall, the upper branches slender, terete, yellowish-green or reddish, from rather congested woody branches below, the pubescence sparse to copious but not dense, principally of coarse, sometimes sublepidote, sessile or very short-stalked stellulate hairs, the arms mostly 4-8, appressed, usually less than 0.75 mm long. Leaf blades thin, yellowish-green, up to 2.2 cm long x 2 cm broad, 3-lobed or-parted, the divisions narrowly to broadly oblong-obovate, crenate-or serrate-dentate or dentate-lobulate apically, usually entire below, leaf base broadly cuneate, the surface glabrate to moderately stellulate-pubescent above and below or simple-pubescent above, often with a simple hair terminating each marginal tooth; stipules asymmetrically ovate, to 2(-3) mm long, glabrous or sparsely ciliate with simple hairs. Flowers 1-2 in the upper leaf axils, usually exceeding the subtending leaf, probably erect at anthesis; pedicels mostly 5-20 mm. long, obscurely jointed apically. Involucral bracts 3, distinct, free from the calyx, apparently more or less appressed, 2.8-4.5 mm long, 0.3-1.5 mm broad, filiform to narrowly obovate, usually not exceeding the calyx tube, glabrous or ciliate with simple hairs. Calyx thin, sparsely sellulate, in bud slightly angulate, acuminate, at anthesis campanulate, slightly accrescent, 7.5-11 mm long, the lobes 4-8 mm long 2-4.1 mm broad, ovate, usually slightly narrowed at the base, long-acuminate. Corolla apparently open-campanulate, the petals white or pinkish, 10-20 mm long, 7-12 mm broad, broadly obovate, the apex obliquely broad-emarginate, the base narrowed rather abruptly to obscure auricles, the surfaces glabrous except for a few simple or stellulate hairs about the auricles and lower ventral surface. Staminal column included, 3.5-7.5 mm long, glabrous; filaments mostly less than 1 mm long, arising over the upper 1-2.5 mm of the column; anthers ca. 51-70. Style branches probably pale magenta, glabrous or with a few simple white hairs; stigmas obliquely capitate, whitish-papillate. Mature fruit not seen; immature fruit to 4.2 mm. in diam., broadly ovoid the apex concave, the upper half densely setose-stellulate, the lower half glabrous; carpels 10-12, each biovulate, to 1.8 mm broad at the base x 3 mm high, asymmetrically narrowly reniform-ovate, the lateral walls smooth in the upper half and ventrally below but the basilateral and dorsolateral edges and adjoining parts of the lateral wall bearing a series of transverse ridges with some vertical interconnections, the median dorsal vein not prominent; carpels divided within into 2 uniovulate cells by a broad, median endoglossum extending nearly to the ventral face, at maturity the upper cell probably dehiscent. Immature seed asymmetrically reniform, ca. 1 mm long, reddish, glabrous.
