Characteristics

Virgate shrub, 0.9-3.0 m high; coarsely stellate-pubescent. Leaves thin, 3-or 5-lobed, lobes of equal length. Flowers solitary or in 2-5(-9)-flowered cymes, often clustered terminally. Epicalyx bracts 3, equaling calyx in length, linear, harshly pubescent. Calyx with lobes deltoid-ovate, densely yellowish pubescent. Petals spreading in a flat whorl, narrowly obovate, strongly involute, white or flushed pink, deep magenta at base. Staminal tube exserted, a few hairs at base; filaments in upper fifth of column, 3 mm long, anthers 70-110, deep magenta. Style branches as many as carpels. Flowering time Apr.? Fruit discoid, reddish brown. Mericarps 12-16, ± orbicular in lateral view, dehiscent ventro-apically. Seeds purplish brown, papillate.
