Characteristics

Herbs, annual or perennial, usually with scattered golden glands. Leaves alternate. Capitula heterogamous, radiate, usually in dense terminal corymbs; phyllaries in 3–5 rows; receptacle paleate, with folded paleae clasping the disc florets. Ray florets yellow, the rays 3–4-toothed, and often with 1–5 minute filamentous staminodes in the throat; disc florets yellow, anthers caudate at base, apex with lanceolate appendage, style with obtuse, somewhat flattened arms. Achenes ellipsoid, often ribbed; pappus of short scales or sometimes absent.
