Characteristics

Rhizome ±erect, attached to a tuberous, perennial gametophyte. Fronds dimorphic, erect or spreading, membranous, annually deciduous; fertile fronds 2.5–12 cm long; sterile fronds irregularly flabellate, to c. 4 cm long, rarely produced except early in the growing season. Stipe slender, pale brown to reddish brown, glossy, glabrous except for a few basal hairs. Lamina of fertile fronds oblong-triangular, very deeply lobed to (dichotomously) 2-pinnate, yellow-green, glabrous; pinnae rather distant, stalked; pinnules ± flabellate, rounded and deeply lobed, cuneate at the base. Sori superficial along veins, sometimes coalescing at maturity. Spores trilete, tetrahedral-globose, black, with a thick-reticulate surface pattern.
More
Rhizome very short, weak, ascending, bearing linear ferruginous hairs; stipites tufted. Stipes filiform to very slender, nude except at very base, pale to rather dark brown, shining, 1-6 cm. long. Rhachis filiform to very slender, nude, with rather distant pinnae. Lamina pinnate to subbipinnate, narrow-to ovate-oblong, pale green, flaccid, glab., 1-8 cm. long. Pinnae 5-20 mm., stalked, flabellate-cuneate, deeply lobed, decurrent; lobes rounded, apiculate or not; pinnae sts again flabellately divided to subpinnate. Sporangia pale, clustered on veins, often covering most of lobe. Sts only the inner laminae are fertile.
Rhizome minute, annual, set with minute, pale, linear, entire rhizome-scales c. 1 mm long. Fronds few, tufted erect, herbaceous; stipe castaneous, up to 80 mm long, glabrous except for a few small pale scales basally; lamina oblong-ovate to narrowly deltate, up to 70 x 28 mm, 2-to 3-pinnatifid (rarely pinnate in very small plants); pinnae ovate-deltate; ultimate segments broadly to narrowly cuneate, emarginate or shallowly lobed, glabrous on both surfaces, bearing the sori; rhachis castaneous to stramineous, glabrous, narrowly winged in upper part.
Rhizomes small, short; scales few, pellucid. Fronds tufted; stipe chestnut-brown, 2-6 cm × 0.5-1 mm, glabrous or occasionally with 1 or 2 pellucid and jointed long hairs; lamina yellowish green, ovate-deltoid to ovate-lanceolate, 4-8 × 1.5-3 cm, submembranous when dry, glabrous, 2-pinnate to 2-pinnate-pinnatifid. Basal pinnae usually larger than adjacent ones; distal pinnae gradually reduced. Ultimate pinnules or segments obovate or obdeltoid, base cuneate and decurrent, apex shallowly lobed. Veins visible on both surfaces. 2n = 58.
Terrestrial annual. Rhizome minute. Fronds few, tufted, erect to slightly arching, 2-or 3-pinnatifid, lamina ovate to oblong, up to 50 x 30 mm, fertile fronds slightly longer and more erect than sterile fronds, glabrous. Sporangia in exindusiate sori borne clustered along veins in lobes of pinnae.
Rhizome small, set with small brown scales. Fronds few, tufted, erect. Lamina up to 70 x 28 mm, 2-or 3-pinnatifid. Pinnae ovate-deltate. Stipe castaneous, up to 80 mm long. Sori borne along the forked veins.
Annual with minute, erect rhizome. Fronds few, tufted, erect, stipe glabrous, lamina 2-or 3-pinnatifid, to 7 cm long, ultimate segments broadly cuneate, shallowly lobed. Null Sori along veins, exindusiate.
