Perennial shrub, 0.3-1.5 m high, dioecious. Leaves obovate to oblong, glabrous, vein prominent below; petioles absent or up to 0.5 mm long; stipular sheath with small seta. Female inflorescence: very conspicuous. Flowers axillary, few or several clusters at nodes. Calyx creamy yellow, pubescent near base or glabrous. Bisexual and male flowers: corolla tube up to 0.8 mm long; anthers yellowish, minute, 1.7-2.0 mm long. Female flowers: corolla tube 0.3-1.0 mm long. Ovary 0.8-1.2 mm long, densely hairy; style ± 1 mm long, stigma 2-10 mm long. Flowering time Jan.-Aug. Fruit greyish brown, oblong, mericarps up to 3.5 x 1.8 mm, covered with white hairs.
