Often mat-or cushion-forming, very densely leafy, dwarf shrub, ± 0.4 m high. Leaves linear to linear-lanceolate, needle-like, midrib reddish brown, margins revolute; petioles subobsolete; stipular sheath with seta, up to 1 mm long. Flowers in clusters of 2-6 at nodes. Corolla yellowish, pubescent. Bisexual flowers: tube ± 1.0-1.3 mm long; anthers ± 1.3-2.0 mm long; style absent, stigma up to 5 mm long, ovary 1.2 ± 1.0 mm long, with indistinct calyx lobes. Female flowers: tube ± 0.5 mm long; gynoecium as in bisexual flowers. Flowering time Jan. Fruit reddish brown, heart-shaped, mericarps ± 2.5 x 1.5 mm, ovate.
