Characteristics

Monoicous, pale yellow, on bark or creeping on other bryophytes. Stem to 3 mm long, prostrate, irregularly and sparsely branched, rhizoids up to the apex. Leaves rather distant, complicate, dorsal lobe patent, convex, ovate, acute, apex not incurved, margin crenulate and denticulate by prominating cells, ventral lobe 3/4 as large, rounded and convex, free margin entire except for an acute tooth. Cells in the margin of the ventral lobe about 10 µ, cells of this lobe with rounded papilis except in the free margin, cells in the dorsal lobe larger, about 10 x 20 µ, without papilis, Amphigastria and stylus lacking. Perianth obovate-oval, obtusely 5-keeled in the distal half, proximal portion non-keeled, the whole surface covered with papilis. Female bracts 3/4 as long as the perianth, covered with papilis, only the basal portion of the lobule Smooth. Male bracts with lobule large and inflated, surface of the latter smooth, free margin with a thumb-like tooth. Sterile leaves sometimes very small, with lobule reduced and only a few cells large.
