Characteristics

Leaves 1.3–4.5 cm long, 1-veined, linear, glabrous; lamina narrowly linear, flattened, c. 0.25 mm wide. Cataphyll 2–4 mm long, acute, rarely absent. Scape straight, 2–7.5 cm long. Spike patent, asymmetric, broadly ovate, 3–7 mm long, 2–4.5 mm wide, remaining compact. Primary bract 1, erect, broadly ovate, acuminate, 2.5–3.6 mm long, glabrous, enclosing 3–8 male flowers. Distal bracts 6–15, broadly ovate, apiculate, 1.2–2.2 mm long, each enclosing 1 female flower; dorsally keeled with a crest of tooth-like hair bases; margins broad, finely erose. Secondary bract subtending stamen elliptic, 2–3 mm long. Anthers 1.2–1.5 mm long. Secondary bract subtending ovary broadly ovate, entire, 0.8–2 mm long. Seed c. 0.8 mm long.
