Characteristics

Perennial geophyte, up to 0.2 m high. Leaves 1 or 2, dry at flowering, suberect, linear, 2.5-3.0 mm wide, straight or very slightly falcate. Flower solitary, funnel-shaped, pinkish outside, whitish within; perianth segments 25-40 mm long; outer stamens inserted below throat, inner stamens inserted ± 2.5 mm above throat, filaments free for 5-7 mm. Flowering time Aug.-Oct. Fruit thinly membranous, ± club-shaped, ± subterranean.

Bulb globose, 1 in diam.; neck 1-1.5 in long. Leaves unknown. Spathe membranous, hyaline, an inch long, lacerated at the apex. Perianth tube very slender, 2 in long; limb whitish, 1.5 in long; segments oblanceolate, obtuse, cuspidate, 0.5 in broad above the middle. Anthers in two distinct rows opposite the lower half of the limb, 0.25 in long.
Geophyte, up to 100-200 mm high. Bulb deeply buried. Leaves 1 or 2; produced after flowers; blade grass-like, blunt-tipped. Flower: solitary, after fires; ovary in underground portion; perianth 25-35 mm in diameter, tube 50-100 mm, acting as a stem, white to pink; Aug., Sep. Fruit an indehiscent capsule, at surface of soil.
