Characteristics

Tubers elongate, to 2 cm long. Leaves submerged; petiole 1–10 (–18) cm long; blade linear to linear-lanceolate, 7–38 (–50) cm long, (0.5–) 1–2 (–2.5) cm wide, strongly bullate; base narrowly cuneate; margins undulate; apex blunt-cuneate to obtuse; veins 3–5 (–7); lacunae in 0–2 rows on both sides of midvein. Peduncle to 30 cm long, not noticeably thicker at inflorescence base. Spathe to 2.5 cm long, mostly persistent. Inflorescence usually submerged, single, to 5.5 cm long, yellow. Flowers closely spaced, borne in all directions, bisexual. Perianth segments 2, spathulate or obovate, 0.75–2.7 mm long, yellow, 1-veined. Stamens 6. Carpels (2–) 3–5. Infructescense dense, cone-shaped, usually submerged. Fruiting carpel 4.2–6 mm long; beak terminal. Seeds 3–8 per fruit, 2.2–2.5 mm long, 1–1.6 mm wide, with simple testa; embryo without a plumule.
