Characteristics

Tubers elongate, to 6.5 cm long, 2 cm wide. Leaf blades floating; petiole to 20 cm long; blade narrowly oblong, to 20 cm long, 0.3–0.7 cm wide; base narrowly cuneate; margins flat; apex obtuse or blunt-cuneate; veins 5–9, some indistinct. Peduncle to 40 cm long, not broadened at base of inflorescence. Spathe 2–3 cm long, persistent. Inflorescence emergent, branched forming 2 spikes, to 17 cm long, green or yellowish green. Flowers widely spaced, turned in all directions, bisexual. Perianth segments 6, transversely broadly obovate, 0.5–1 mm long, green or yellowish green, 1-veined. Stamens 6. Carpels 3 (or 4). Fruiting carpel (3.8–) 5–7 (–10) mm long, 1.9–3.2 (–5) mm wide; beak terminal, straight, c. 0.5 mm long. Seeds ellipsoid, (2.6–) 5.1–6.2 (–7) mm long, (1.2–) 1.7–3 mm wide, with single testa; embryo large.
