Gnarled, woody, mat-forming shrublet, up to 1 m diam., with a woody base and leafy side shoots. Leaves narrowed below into a petiole, small, rounded to narrowly lanceolate. Flowers sessile, corolla tube ± funnel-shaped, lobes blue to violet with darker patches near base, throat whitish.
Procumbent, dwarf shrub, up to 0.025 m high and 1 m wide. Leaves obovate or narrowly so (rarely wider); petioles not hardening into spines. Flowers axillary, mostly longer than leaves. Calyx: lobes up to tube length. Corolla tubular, violet to blue, often with dark marks or white areas.
