Spiny, dwarf shrub, prostrate to ascending (erect), 0.03-0.30(-0.70) m high; leafy. Leaves ± linear, acute, sessile, midrib forming spine with age. Flowers axillary, usually longer than leaves. Calyx shortly 5-lobed. Corolla tubular, expanded above, lobes short, blue to violet or mauve, often darker round mouth, sometimes white in throat.
Spreading shrublet, with erect branches, up to 250 mm tall. Leaves linear, rigid, becoming spiny with age, sessile. Flowers sessile, corolla tube ± funnelshaped, fawn, lobes blue and purple with violet patches near base.
