Characteristics

Plants 100-150 mm high, forming diffuse low cushions, spreading by slender underground stolons. Stem strongly compressed, 2-winged, dichotomously 1-to few-branched or simple. Leaves linear, slightly shorter than stems, 1-3 mm wide, glaucous, firm textured, cauline sometimes lacking as when unbranched. Flower clusters single or few, each 2-to 4-flowered; spathes and bracts green to brown with narrow translucent margins, 10-14 mm long. Flowers deep blue, tepals obovate, often emarginate, 15-20 mm long. Style 8-12 mm long, stigmatic lobes narrow, obscurely fringed Capsules on pedicels up to 5 mm long, 3-winged, 7-8 mm long. Seeds lamellate, kidney-shaped, 2 per locule, margins papillate, with sculpturing foveate.
