Characteristics

Plants 80-150(-180) mm high. Stem flattened and 2-winged, 1.2-1.7 mm wide, 1 or 2 per plant, with an elongate, leafless upper internode up to 105 mm long, occasionally with a second short stem up to 30 mm long; stems each with a single terminal flower cluster. Leaves narrowly sword-shaped to linear, ± as long as stem or slightly longer, 1.5-3.0 mm wide, with narrow, acute hyaline margins sometimes flushed red. Flower clusters solitary, terminal, (1)2-flowered; spathes green, acute-attenuate, margins dry, translucent, (13-)15-22(-26) mm long, bracts similar, 6-15 mm long. Flowers on pedicels 10-15 mm long, blue, outer tepals green outside; tepals unequal, outer 10-16 x 3.5-5.0 mm, inner 11-17 x 5.5-11.0 mm. Filaments 3-4 mm long; anthers 2.5-3.0 mm long, yellow. Style 5.5-8.0 mm long; stigma lobes slightly fringed. Capsules ovoid, 6-12 mm long, on pedicels up to 20 mm long. Seeds globose, without sculpturing, surface cells tuberculate.
