Characteristics

Plants 150-250 mm high, usually growing singly. Stem compressed, dichotomously branched, rarely simple. Leaves mostly basal, linear, about half as long as stem, 1.5-3.0 mm wide, rigid, elliptic in section, margins translucent. Flower clusters terminal, stalked, each 2-to 4-flowered; spathes and bracts silvery-translucent with narrow, dark keels, 15-20 mm long. Flowers blue; tepals 18-25 x 14-16 mm. Filaments 6-7 mm long; anthers ± 2.5 mm long. Style 8-9 mm long, stigma lobes broad, slightly fringed. Capsules 3-winged, 10-12 mm long. Seeds lamellate, kidney-shaped, 2 per locule, sculpturing foveate, margins fringed.
