Characteristics

Plants up to 1 m high. Stem rounded in section, ± dichotomously several-branched. Leaves linear to sword-shaped, 4-9 mm wide, soft-textured, margins translucent. Flower clusters several, all terminal on branches, each mostly 4-to 6-flowered; spathes and bracts 10-12 mm long, silvery-translucent with narrow dark keels. Flowers blue; tepals 12-14 mm long. Filaments ± 5 mm long; anthers ± 2.5 mm long. Style with 3 shortly fringed lobes. Capsules short, deeply 3-winged, 7-8 mm long. Seeds lamellate, kidney-shaped, sculpturing foveate, 2 per locule, mature seeds with margins evidently fringed.
