Characteristics

Plants up to 500 mm high, forming tufts. Stem elliptic in section, usually unbranched, bearing sessile lateral flower clusters. Leaves linear, narrow, 2-4 mm wide, firm to stiff and leathery, margins angular, translucent, hyaline when dry. Flower clusters (2)3 to 6, each (2)4-flowered; spathes dark green with translucent margins, bracts dry-membranous. Flowers half to fully nodding, pale to deep blue, greenish in throat; outer tepals 16-19 x 6-8 mm, inner tepals 15-22 x 10-12 mm. Filaments ± 4 mm long; anthers ± 3.5 mm long. Ovary elongate, > 20 mm long, triangular in section; style broadly 3-lobed; stigma lobes fringed. Capsules elongate, deeply 3-lobed, up to 35 mm long, woody, indehiscent. Seeds triangular-columnar, many per locule in a single row, surface smooth.
