Characteristics

Leaf lamina 20-40 mm long, with long sparse hairs chiefly on margins; base sheathing below ground, 10-20 mm long. Inflorescence stems 25-35 cm long, covered by long sparse hairs, slender, with many short sterile side branches, leafless except a small scale (sometimes leaf-like) under each branch. Spike depressed-ovate; bracts hard, pungent, densely hairy, green or brown; bracteoles 3 per flower, pungent, with long soft hairs only on margin. Perianth tube c. 7 mm long; lobes 9-12 mm long.
