Characteristics

A dense cushion-like shrub up to c. 25 cm high, with numerous forking and diverging densely leafy branches ending in solitary capitula. Stems and leaf-bases loosely lanate when young. Leaves linear, suberect when young, patent and somewhat reflexed when mature, obtuse or bluntly apiculate, rigid, densely glandular-hispid on the upper surface, the margins thick and reflexed almost covering the lanate lower surface, with a narrow median groove above, 1.2-1.5 cm long, 2 mm wide. Capitula solitary, terminal, pedunculate, erect, exserted just beyond the leaves. Peduncle c. 8 mm long, terete, bractless, lanate. Involucre c. 1 cm long, 8 mm diam., the scales rigid, light coloured, scarious, glandular and lanate, multiseriate, gradated, the longest lanceolate, slightly carinate, acute, c. 7 mm long, 1.5 mm wide. Ray florets c. 16, female, ligulate, yellow, ovary c. 2 mm long, terete, pubescent, tube 4 mm long, puberulous, lamina c. 7 mm long, 2 mm wide, apex shortly 3-lobed, style-branches slender, c. 1.3 mm long, pappus bristles c. 18, stiff, straight, uniformly barbellate, c. 6 mm long, a little longer than the corolla tube. Disc florets c. 40, hermaphrodite, ovary as in ray florets, corolla tubular, yellow, c. 6 mm long, the upper half wider than the puberulous lower half, anthers with slender basal awns appressed to filament, pappus as in ray florets, about equalling the corolla tube.

Dwarf much-branched shrub forming low compact cushions, young stems densely leafy. Leaves imbricated, linear, up to 13 x 2 mm, subacute, margins strongly revolute, lower surface white-woolly, upper viscid, shining, with stout glandular hairs particularly towards the tips and on the rolled margins. Heads solitary at the branch tips, shortly pedunculate. Involucre turbinate, c. 11 x 10 mm, bracts straw-coloured, pale brown towards the tips, lightly woolly, glandular-pubescent. Flowers yellow, both rays and disc fertile. Achenes c. 3 mm, fusiform, ribbed, villous. Pappus of scabrid bristles, persistent.
