Leaves petiolate; lamina 3–7.5 x 1.3–3 (3.8) cm., oblong or elliptic to oblanceolate or obovate, obtuse or shortly acuminate at the apex, cuneate (rarely rounded) at the base, coriaceous, apple-green or greyish green, glossy and glabrous (except at the base of the midrib) above, matte and ± sparsely appressed-pubescent below, with venation rather more densely reticulate below than above; petiole 1–3 mm. long, spreading-or subappressed-pubescent.
Petals green (? turning yellow), thick, unequal, 9–11 mm. long, the outer ones ovate-lanceolate, slightly concave below, the inner ones narrowly elliptic or linear in the upper part, broadened and concave below, sericeous-pubescent except at the base within.
Fruit on a pedicel 3–5 mm. long; fruiting carpels 1–2 (? or more), (1) 1.3–1.9 x 0.5–0.7 cm., 1–2-seeded, cylindric, rostrate, glabrous, finely rugose, scarlet, sessile.
Flowers solitary, bracts linear-subulate, persistent; peduncle reflexed or uncinate; pedicels 3–5 mm. long, ± spreading-pubescent.
Carpels c. 6–9, c. 1 mm. long, narrowly ovoid or ± flattened, glabrous, 2-ovulate; style small, flattened, glabrous.
Stamens numerous, 0–75–1 mm. long, cuneiform; connective-prolongation broadly triangular.
Sepals 2.5–4 (6) mm. long, ovate, acuminate, free, pilose outside, pubescent within.
Branches reddish-brown, rusty-spreading-pubescent.
