Climbing shrub or liane 1.8–4 m. tall or long; young stems pilose with half-adpressed to spreading ferruginous hairs, at length adult stems glabrescent or with few hairs, brown or reddish-brown, lenticellate.. Leaf-blades almost round to oblong, oblong-elliptic, elliptic or obovate-oblong, or rarely oblanceolate, 3–17.5 cm. long, 1.2–6.3 cm. wide, rounded to distinctly acuminate at the apex, broadly cuneate to subcordate at the base, mostly distinctly coriaceous, glabrous and mostly glossy above or midrib pilose, sparsely to densely adpressed pilose beneath; venation raised and reticulate on both surfaces, mostly rather more prominent above; petiole 1–4 mm. long, pilose.. Flowers solitary on hooked peduncles; bracts linear-lanceolate, 1.5–2.5 mm. long; pedicels 7–8(–15) mm. long, adpressed pilose.. Sepals free or slightly joined at the base, ovate-triangular, 5–9 mm. long, 4–6 mm. wide, acuminate at the apex, with scattered ferruginous hairs outside.. Petals green, greenish-yellow or dull yellow, sometimes slightly tinged with purple at the base, outer narrowly ovate to broadly lanceolate, (1.2–)1.5–3 cm. long, (0.4–)0.7–1.3 cm. wide, acute to long-acuminate, mostly slightly constricted above the basal part which covers the stamens, inner narrower, (1–) 1.3–3 cm. long, (2.5–)3.2–5 mm. wide, slightly widened and concave at the base, all sparsely to very densely covered with long and short adpressed ferruginous hairs outside and with only short hairs inside.. Stamens cuneiform, 1–1.5 mm. long; connective-appendage obtuse.. Carpels up to 30, cylindrical, 1.5 mm. long, glabrous, separated from each other by bristly hairs on the receptacle.. Monocarps at first yellow-green, later scarlet, ellipsoid or cylindric-ellipsoid, 1.3–1.7 cm. long, 0.5–1 cm. wide, flattened on inner face when 2 seeds are present, mostly slightly beaked, glabrous, finely rugose, sessile..
