Characteristics

Scandent or trailing shrub, glabrous.. Branches many, terete, smooth.. Spines at the base of the branches, 2– 3 mm long, curved downwards; those at the base of the cladodes smaller, ± 1 mm long.. Cladode fascicles close to each other on terminal or side branches, giving the appearance of a bottle brush; cladodes in fascicles of 10– 60 or more, filiform, slightly curved, unequal, 7– 10 mm long.. Flowers solitary; bracts scarious, ± 0.5 mm long; pedicel ± 5 mm long in fruit, articulated close to the base.. Tepals not seen.. Berry orange, 7– 10 mm in diameter.
