Asystasia mysurensis T.Anderson

Annual herb 10-60 cm tall, initially erect but often becoming decumbent; stems glabrous, strigose at the nodes. Leaves 2-9 x 0.8-3 cm, usually petiolate, ovate to elliptic, sparsely strigose, margins entire to obscurely toothed, apex broadly acute to obtuse. Inflorescence up to 9 cm long, a decussate cyme bearing up to 20 flowers; bracts ovate to elliptic, 10-20 x 6-12 mm, sparsely strigose, bracteoles smaller; pedicels 3 mm long. Calyx pentamerous, divided to the base, calyx lobes deltate, 4-5 x 1-1.5 mm, densely strigose and with acapitate glandular trichomes. Corolla creamy white, pentamerous, petals connate forming a tube 5-8 x 2-3 mm, dilated in the distal two thirds, palate well developed, with petal sculpturing; corolla lobes, 0.75-1.5 mm long. Stamens 4, epipetalous, didynamous; filaments glabrous, 2-6 mm long; anthers bithecous, mucronate, slightly divergent, 1.5-2 mm long, thecae oblique; connective with stalked glandular trichomes. Pollen perprolate, 33 x 15 µm, tricolporate, each colpus flanked by two pseudocolpae and two margocolpae on each side, outer margocolpae areolate; exine sculpturing foveolate. Ovary oblong, 2-3 x 1-1.5 mm, densely papillate; style arcuate, basally strigose but otherwise glabrous, stigma transversely bifid with short rounded lobes. Nectariferous disc cupular, deeply notched on the upper and lower surfaces. Capsule loculicidal, slightly compressed, 20-25 x 7-10 mm, bilocular, apex apiculate; jaculators 5-6 mm long, spathulate. Seeds dark brown to white, compressed, margin coarsely dentate, 5-8 mm broad and 1-1.5 mm thick, tubercles cone-shaped peripherally, verrucose centrally.
