Characteristics

Woody herb, 0.3–0.5 m high, hardly branched, single-stemmed?; called stoloniferous by Brenan; stems brown, grey-tomentose, densely leafy.. Leaves linear, 0.5–4 cm long, 0.1–0.2 cm wide, porrect, base slightly widened, margins revolute, apex acute and mucronate, sparsely pubescent or glabrous above, white-tomentose beneath.. Capitula 8–12 mm long, heterogamous, solitary or in few-headed leafy corymbs, rarely up to 20 heads together; stalks of individual capitula 2–5 mm long; phyllaries with dark tips, 2–8 mm long, pubescent.. Florets: ray florets mauve, 14–30, tube cylindrical, 4.3–4.7 mm long, ray 6–7 mm long, 1.8–2.5 mm wide, style 4–5.3 mm long; tube florets orange-yellow, 60–80, tube cylindric, 5–6 mm long, lobes 0.3–0.5 mm long, anthers ± 2.5 mm long, style 5.5–7 mm long.. Achenes cylindric, 1.3–1.7 mm long, with some basal hairs; pappus of barbellate bristles 4.5–5.5 mm long with an outer series of small bristles to 0.7 mm long.
