Characteristics

Plants in loose tufts. Stems up to 53 mm long. Leaves strongly crisped when dry, ligulate to linear-obovate, 5-10 mm long, often undulate, usually toothed dorsally; apex acute to short-acuminate; margins limbate, double-toothed; costa narrow, percurrent; lamellae 4-6, confined to upper surface of costa, 2-6 cells high. Upper laminal cells short rectangular to subquadrate. Capsule suberect to inclined, long and narrow; peristome teeth 32. Recognised by the undulate leaves, crisped and contorted when dry, and the narrow costa with 4-6 rows of lamellae.
