Leaves mostly ovate-oblong, 2–6 cm. long, 1–3 (–3.5) cm. wide, rounded at apex, more or less cordate or with obtuse auricles at base, margins entire or almost so; petiole 1–4 mm. long; upper leaves smaller and narrower, sometimes subacute at apex and ends of auricles.. Inflorescence an irregular terminal panicle, the ultimate branchlets bearing dense sessile flower-clusters spiciformly arranged.. Connate basal part of fruiting bracteoles thickened, 1.5–4 mm. long, 1.5–3 mm. wide, obconical or campanulate, the free apical part of each bracteole rounded to ovate or triangular, 3–5 mm. long and wide, obtuse to subacute at apex and with entire margins.
