Characteristics

Tree or shrub to 2–7 mm tall. Bark smooth, reddish brown in smaller trees, pustular and grey brown in larger trees. Pneumatophores 20–30 cm tall. Leaf lamina ovate-elliptic, 59–129 mm long, 26–53 mm wide; upper surface bright satiny green; undersurface paler, finely pubescent; tip mostly rounded; petiole 11–26 mm long. Inflorescence mostly capitate, of 3–7 flowers decussately arranged, 20–30 mm long. Flowers 11–13 mm long. Calyx lobes ovate, 8–10 mm long, 5–6 mm wide; margins glabrous; apex rounded. Corolla variably zygomorphic; tube 7–11 mm diam.; corolla lobes golden yellow, unequal, 3–5 mm long; outer surface pubescent with 1 mm glabrous border. Stamens usually 4, in short and long pairs; filaments 1.5 or 2.5 mm long; anthers c. 1.5 mm long. Ovary ampulla-shaped, densely tomentose. Fruit ellipsoidal, 21–23 mm long, 12–15 mm wide, 8–10 mm thick; pericarp velvety; radicle densely hairy ±throughout.
