Babiana blanda (L.Bolus) G.J.Lewis

Plants 80-150 mm high. Stem erect, velvety-hairy, rarely 1-or 2-branched. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, pleated, hairy, blades held ± at right angles to sheaths. Spike suberect, 3-to 6-flowered; bracts green with dry rust-coloured tips, outer 24-35(-45) mm long, inner slightly shorter, divided to base. Flowers actinomorphic, pale to deep rosy pink, sometimes white in centre, unscented; perianth funnel-shaped, 20-27 mm long; tepals subequal, obovate or suborbicular, 23-33 x 14-20 mm, forming a shallow bowl. Stamens symmetrically arranged; filaments erect, surrounding style, 5-8 mm long; anthers linear, 7-9 mm long, pale pink, diverging. Ovary silky hairy above; style dividing below anther bases, branches 3-4 mm long, expanded apically.
