Characteristics

Plants up to 100 mm high. Stem reaching shortly above ground level, simple or with 1 or 2 branches. Leaves lanceolate, pleated, hairy. Spike congested, 2-to 5-flowered; bracts velvety hairy, entirely green, 20-30 mm long, inner slightly shorter than outer, margins hyaline, divided to base. Flowers actinomorphic, mauve with cream-coloured markings; perianth tube straight, ± 20 mm long, widening toward throat; tepals subequal, 20-24 x 8-12 mm. Stamens symmetrically arranged; filaments surrounding style, ± 10 mm long; anthers 5-6 mm long. Ovary densely hairy; style dividing opposite anther bases, branches ± 4 mm long, with broad expanded tips.
