Characteristics

Plants 50-90 mm high, with deep-seated corm up to 20 mm diam. Stem erect, simple or 1-branched, reaching shortly above ground, enclosed at base by well-developed fibrous collar. Leaves 3 to 6, broadly lanceolate to ovate, 2-3 mm long, blade held very obliquely to overlapping leaf sheaths, lightly plicate, apex truncate, veins drawn into short teeth, with long silky hairs up to 3 mm long on veins and margins. Spike erect, long-hairy, 3-to 5-flowered; bracts green, silky-hairy, 12-16 mm long, inner ± as long as outer, forked apically, membranous in midline. Flowers zygomorphic, upper 3 tepals yellow or maroon with yellow margins, lower 3 tepals pale yellow with pale median maroon streak, presence of scent unknown; perianth tube narrowly funnel-shaped, ± 24 mm long; tepals spreading, lanceolate, dorsal ± 17 x 5 mm, lower tepals 15-17 mm long, channelled below. Stamens unilateral; filaments ± 14 mm long; anthers ± 5 mm, yellow; pollen yellow. Ovary smooth; style dividing opposite middle of anthers, branches ± 3 mm long. Capsules globose, ± 6 mm long. Seeds unknown.
