Plants 100-200 mm high. Stem velvety, simple or 1-to 3-branched, often flexed outward, with prominent collar of fibres around base. Leaves narrowly lanceolate, firm, pleated, hairy. Spike velvety, suberect, 4-to 10-flowered; bracts green with rust-coloured tips, 15-25 mm long, inner divided to base. Flowers weakly zygomorphic, pink to reddish purple, lower tepals with darker markings near base, lightly fragrant; perianth tube straight, cylindric below, slightly expanded above, 18-28 mm long; tepals subequal, spreading, 18-25 mm long. Stamens unilateral; filaments nearly straight, 10-14 mm long; anthers arrow-shaped, parallel, connective not or hardly exposed, facing lower tepals, 6-8 mm long, purple. Ovary hairy; style arching behind filaments, exceeding anthers, branches slender, ± 4 mm long, with broad, bilobed tips.
