Characteristics

Plants 50-120 mm high. Stem velvety, strongly flexed outward, simple or branched. Leaves narrowly lanceolate, deeply pleated, fairly stiff, shortly rough-hairy. Spike ascending, 4-to 10-flowered; bracts green, rust-coloured at tips, velvety-hairy, 12-22 mm long, inner ± as long as outer, divided to base. Flowers actinomorphic, deep blue with red centre sometimes edged with diffuse white zone, unscented; perianth tube narrowly funnel-shaped, 10-12 mm long, filiform near base, wider above; tepals subequal, obovate, 18-20 x 8-10 mm. Stamens symmetrically arranged; filaments erect, ± 8 mm long; anthers erect, 4-5 mm long, linear, reddish brown. Ovary densely hairy; style dividing ± 2 mm below anther bases, branches slender, ± 2 mm long, extending between filaments.
