Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 15 m high. Leaves opposite; petiole 3–14 mm long; lamina cuneate-obovate, elliptic, broadly elliptic to oblong, 22–160 mm long, 10–75 mm wide, with 12–16 lateral veins; with a marginal gland embedded on each side 1–5 mm above petiole. Inflorescence terminal. Male flowers 4–7 mm long, 10–15 mm diam.; pedicels 4–13 mm long; sepals lanceolate to lanceolate-ovate, 3–6 mm long, 1.2–3.2 mm wide; petals lanceolate to obovate, 5–9 mm long, 2–3.8 mm wide; stamens numerous. Female flowers 4–7 mm long, 8–20 mm diam.; pedicels 4.8–11 mm long; sepals lanceolate, 3.5–6 mm long, 1.5–2 mm wide; petals lanceolate to obovate, 7–11 mm long, 2.8–4.5 mm wide; styles erect to recurved, 3–6 mm long, deeply bifid. Fruits subglobose, 10–17 mm long, 12–20 mm diam. Seeds subglobose, 7–10 mm long, 5–7 mm wide.
