Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 12 m high. Leaves alternate; petiole 5–40 mm long; lamina cuneate-oblanceolate to obovate, 40–160 mm long, 13–55 mm wide, with 14–16 lateral veins. Glands at margins of leaf bases. Inflorescence axillary. Male flowers 4–10 mm long, 5–8 mm diam.; pedicels 5–15 mm long; sepals lanceolate, 2.4–4 mm long, 1.6–2 mm wide; petals obovate, 2.5–4 mm long, 1.8–2 mm wide; stamens 40+, with filaments hairy at base. Female flowers 4–5 mm long, 6–8 mm diam.; pedicels 6–8 mm long; sepals ovate, c. 2.5 mm long, 2 mm wide; petals lanceolate-ovate, 4.5–6 mm long, 2–3 mm wide; styles erect to recurved, 2.5–4 mm long, deeply bifid. Fruit globose, 12–13 mm long, 14–15 mm diam. Seeds ellipsoid, 8–9 mm long, 6–6.5 mm wide.
