Characteristics

Shrub to 60 cm wide; stems prostrate, short, ±underground, villous; prophylls many, linear, tomentose. Leaves: petiole 4-6 cm long, ±glabrous; lamina pinnatifid, 8-25 cm long, 5-20 mm wide; margins flat; lobes 15-35 each side, triangular, obtuse, ±flat, rusty-villous when young, glabrescent except pits. Inflorescence terminal, subtended by leaves, closely successive; involucral bracts linear-subulate; inner bracts narrowly lanceolate, to 2 cm long, dark rusty-tomentose; flowers 40-60. Perianth 39-43 mm long, pink-mauve with pale yellow limb, curled-tomentose in lower third, pubescent distally; limb 7-8 mm long, keeled, appressed-puberulous. Pistil incurved before anthesis then strongly outcurved, 43-44 (-57) mm long, cream, pilose in lower half; pollen presenter 3.5-4.8 mm long, ribbed, green. Follicles ±obovate, 5-6 mm long, with an apical tuft of long rusty hairs, glabrous below.
