Shrub, rarely a tree, to 5 m tall, much-branched and spreading, without lignotuber. Bark roughly fissured, grey. Stems pubescent, glabrescent. Leaves whorled, sometimes alternate; petiole 5-11 mm long; lamina leathery, elliptic, 3-9 cm long, 7-12 mm wide, obtuse; margins recurved, entire; upper surface loosely hirsute, glabrescent; lower surface white-matted. Inflorescence 8-20 cm long; involucral bracts narrow, hirsute, persistent. Flowers golden; styles yellow. Perianth 25-30 mm long including limb of 3.5-4 mm, pubescent outside, also inside along upper margins. Pistil hooked, 30-35 mm long, glabrous; pollen presenter ovoid, 0.5 mm long. Old flowers persistent but finally falling. Follicles up to c. 100, elliptic, 11-15 mm long, 2-3 mm high, 3-4 mm wide, smooth, tomentose. Seed obovate-cuneate, 18-20 mm long; seed body narrowly cuneate, 10-11 mm long, smooth, with inner face slightly rugose.
